An asylum seeker who sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl has been mistakenly released from prison. Hadush Kebatu, 38, from Ethiopia, arrived in Britain on a small boat and was due to be deported. Instead, staff at HMP Chelmsford wrongly released him after a “human error” and even gave him £76 for expenses. Footage showed Kebatu wandering near Chelmsford police station before boarding a London-bound train. He was last seen arriving at Liverpool Street Station. Justice Secretary David Lammy said he was “appalled” and called for an urgent investigation, as police launched a major manhunt to find Kebatu.
