The Northeast Festival, held from November 15 to 17, 2024, at MDC National Stadium near India Gate, was a vibrant celebration of the culture, heritage, and traditions of the eight Northeastern states. The festival brought together over 200 communities on a single platform. It featured cultural performances, handicrafts, art displays, and traditional cuisines, offering a glimpse into the unique charm of the region. One of the highlights of our visit was exploring the food stalls. We began with an Assamese thali that included duck curry, pork curry, rice, and aalu pitika, a flavorful mashed potato dish. At a Nepali stall, we enjoyed sel roti, a crispy and sweet rice-flour treat. From Manipur, we tried singju, a tangy and spicy vegetable salad, along with longpi pork, a delicious dish cooked in traditional black stone pots. Returning to another Assamese stall, we had rice and chicken curry, which was so delicious. We continued our culinary journey with some pork sekuwa, a grilled meat delicacy, and chicken momos, soft and flavorful dumplings. From a Meghalaya shop, we sampled jadoh, a Khasi rice dish, paired with black sesame chicken, which had a rich and nutty taste. To end the day on a sweet note, we enjoyed til pitha, a sesame-filled rice cake, and black sticky rice, a chewy and delightful dessert. The festival was a memorable experience, offering not just incredible food but also a chance to connect with the Northeast’s rich culture and traditions.
