Whilst touring the Exmoor National Park, I had to pay a visit to the Tarr Steps - an ancient clapper bridge which spans the river Barle. The River may be forded, the bridge is adjacent to a public highway although not recommended for the average car.. Apologies to the paddlers who got a little wetter than they perhaps intended... I did sit and wait for some time... the old Rover makes waves in her wake.... The river was about a foot and a half deep at the ford which is about the fording limit of a standard Series 3 Land Rover. The river will be much deeper during the winter and it is not unknown for the water to reach the stone slabs forming the bridge deck. Exmoor is one of the more beautiful parts of England which I have visited, I didn't want to leave.
