Austin B. George, MD, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon with Wichita Surgical Specialists. “My name is Dr. Austin George. I'm a general surgeon with Wichita Surgical Specialists. I’m from Wichita. I was born here and raised in Andover. My mother was a physician assistant for a surgeon years ago. So that opened my eyes that surgery was an awesome field and that I was able to expand from that from the contacts that they had and other surgical specialties. It was really a blessing. There's a broad spectrum of patients that we get, it's spread fairly evenly amongst the breadth of general surgery. Most common things that I perform are endoscopy and abdominal surgeries. I'm very patient-focused in my practice. I don't have a computer in front of me. I try to have good eye contact with patients and talk to them and try to figure out what their problem is and how I can help them. I'm very upfront with patients about expectations, and my number one goal is to have excellent outcomes. Sometimes that means not operating. Sometimes that means having the patients have lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, weight loss, exercise, things along those lines. Wichita is a great medical community. There’s a wide variety of a great specialists here in Wichita, a lot of great patients, primary care doctors. It's a great community to be a part of. It's also, as many people know, a great community to raise a family. I’m married, have two kids. I love my family. I try to spend as much time with them as I can even though I have a busy surgical career. They’re very understanding of my occupation. Spend as much time doing activities at home, outdoor activities, school, church.
