So, I never really considered venturing into anything in the field of science. I always knew that it had to be something in the business field. Accounting and Business have always been my passion. My dad has his own business, so commerce was always my thing, that's why commerce. The Department of Commerce started way back in 2007. Over the years the department has evolved and, looking at the needs of the industry and the society, we have brought in 8 different specializations in the program and, we are making sure that our programs are industry-ready, industry compliant. I chose HR basically, as it is something that has always connected with me and for an organization, people are its strength. So, understanding the mindsets of the people and feeling their problems and, basically utilizing their skillsets in such a way that it can be effective for me and the organization at large. I'm specializing in the financial market because the ultimate goal is to be an entrepreneur and trade in the stock market. I want to have an asset management company of my own. So, for that financial market is the course which allows us to understand various stocks, mutual funds and how to trade in them. Marketing is basically, a very creative field. So, when we talk about different companies, it is basically how you represent that company. So, that is what really, got me interested in marketing. Business analytics is a subject where we have a combination of everything where you have computer science aspects and the business aspects everything brought together. My specialization, especially deals with banking technology and the course that is offered is only in "MAHE". We captured the inputs from the industry and made sure we provide relevant contemporary programs that are needed in the current context. We have started new programs in the area of digital marketing, business analytics, health economics, and financial economics. So, these are the new areas where we are looking at interdisciplinary components, and we are making sure that our programs are industry-ready. The department of commerce provides both theoretical as well as practical based learning. We have case studies, we have daily activities, we have field trips that we are taken in like once every semester. We have a separate semester for the internship as well as a study abroad program. So, in that, I had chosen a foreign exchange program and for that, I went to the Netherlands. We have fests called "Convergence", "Conscendo" in college and these kinds of things really test your business acumen. So, the kind of internship opportunities that are available at the department, actually makes them get the corporate exposure and at the same time provides an opportunity for them to get the final placements in the same company. I have been here for 3 years now and other than the college the place itself is so calm and so quiet. The biggest reason why I want to choose to come to Manipal is diversity. It's really, a very picturesque place, has a lot of infrastructural facilities and just the name Manipal gets a lot behind it.
