Ntheo was and is a very important ceremony among the Kamba People of Kenya. It was the ceremony that bound the family of the Girl being married to that of her husband. It consisted of binding the living and the dead ancestors. For the dead the bond was created by traditional beer and blood from a Goat which was slaughtered. If a girl was set to be married and her mother had not been married and unfortunately she was dead - the ceremony could not proceed until a ceremony of the Ntheo ceremony was performed on her even though she was dead. The required ceremony would be done to her mother (the grandmother of the girl to be married or grandfather)- if they were alive. If a woman was set to be married and as above her mother had passed on the ceremony would be done to her Uncle - it is her uncle who would receive the bride price.
