✈️ Flights With Joel – LIVE: Part 32 – Desert Miles & Borderlands (KFST ➜ KLRU) For Part 32, we depart Fort Stockton (KFST) and continue west, tracking Interstate 10 as it slices through some of the most open and unforgiving terrain in the American Southwest. This is big-sky flying — long distances, subtle terrain changes, and a real sense of progress. Climbing out of Fort Stockton, the land quickly dries and flattens. Ranch roads, rail lines, and I-10 run nearly parallel, all pointing west. Stops & Scenic Touch-and-Goes 🇺🇸 KVHN – Culberson County Airport (Van Horn) A classic West Texas stop right along I-10, surrounded by desert and distant mountain ranges. It’s a familiar checkpoint for anyone crossing the state by air or road. 🇺🇸 El Paso Flyover Passing over El Paso, we get a clear aerial view of one of America’s true border cities. The Rio Grande traces the international line below, with Ciudad Juárez stretching just to the south. Highways, rail yards, and neighborhoods from two nations blend into a single sprawling metro area. 🇺🇸 NM05 – New Mexico Desert Strip Crossing into New Mexico, we touch down at a quiet, remote field where the desert feels even more expansive and the air a little thinner. 🛣 I-10 Corridor For the entire leg, I-10 stays in sight below — straight, efficient, and relentless, guiding us west through borderland country. Final Destination 🛬 KLRU – Las Cruces International We finish in southern New Mexico, with the Organ Mountains rising sharply to the east and the Rio Grande valley stretching north and south. It’s a gateway city — desert behind us, mountains and plateaus ahead.
