"Washington Square" by the Village Stompers reached #2 on the Billboard magazine Hot 100 singles chart in 1963. It was also #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart. It was topping the charts when President Kennedy was assassinated. This performance is from four years later, October 1967, when the reconstituted group, then known as Frank Hubbell & the Stompers, appeared on "The Mike Douglas Show. However, in this case the original audio track from 1963 has been synced to the later performance. The Village Stompers was an American dixieland jazz group that hailed from Greenwich Village in New York City. An early incarnation of the group consisted of Dick Brady, Don Coates, Ralph Casale, Frank Hubbell, Lenny Pogan, Al McManus, Mitchell May, and Joe Muranyi. "Washington Square" was their first and biggest hit.
