What happens when the gospel collides with authority? What happens when obedience to God becomes costly? What happens when those in power decide Christ must be silenced? In Acts 5:21b–32, we see a striking contrast between human power and God’s sovereign authority. The apostles are arrested, imprisoned, and commanded to stop speaking in the name of Jesus - yet God opens the prison doors, sends them back into the temple, and continues advancing His purposes without resistance. This passage does not give us strategies or slogans. It lifts our eyes away from human authority and fixes them on a risen, exalted, and reigning Christ. In this message, we see three unshakable truths: 1. God is unstoppable. Locked doors, posted guards, and institutional power could not stop the Word of life from being proclaimed. 2. God must be obeyed. When human authority contradicts God’s revealed will, obedience is not heroic — it is inevitable for those who know Christ reigns. 3. The exalted Christ gives repentance. Jesus does not merely command obedience from His throne — He gives repentance and forgiveness as gifts of grace. This passage humbles us, not by calling us to be braver or louder, but by reminding us that Christ reigns with real authority and real mercy. Our obedience flows not from fear or strength, but from clarity about who is Lord.
