It is very smooth on the top with a cut out section for a cup or your cell phone. The table has rounded corners. The legs are easy to adjust the height by loosening the screws and pulling the legs down or up to lengthen or shorten them. The table top has decorative cut out designs with 2 fans installed below. It has a USB cord that pulls out and connects to my Laptop USB port to keep my laptop cool while I use it. As soon as I connect the USB cord to my computer, it immediately turns both fans on. They are actually quite compared to some computer fans I have owned. The table top lifts and tilts/angles allowing you to read a book, magazine or angle my tablet. When you angle the table you will need to pull up on the laptop side and then place the adjustable metal bar in the position you want the table angled at. There is a removable wooden shelf that connects to the top of the table to place your book or laptop on to keep it from sliding off. I keep the small shelf in the drawer under the table until I need to use it. The drawer is very small (5 inch by 5 inch) but will hold the small shelf, a couple of pens or pencils, my earphones and jump drives.
