Here are some recommended cherry blossom viewing spots in the Shugakuin and Ichijoji area of Kyoto's Sakyo ward. This area offers much to explore, including the Shugakuin Imperial Villa, Manshuin Monzeki Temple, and Shisendo Temple. In spring, you can enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms at Enkoji Temple and other locations. If you have the time, I recommend visiting several of these spots in a single day. --------------------------- 1. Saginomori shrine (Sakyo ward, Kyoto city) Built between 859 and 877 during the Heian period, this shrine was relocated from the Shugakuin Imperial Villa in 1689. Its name, "Saginomori," meaning "heron's forest" in Japanese, derives from the herons believed to be messengers of the gods that once inhabited this area. Manshuin-bentendo (Sakyo ward, Kyoto city) A hidden shrine located in front of Manshuin temple, I have no idea who manages it, but the landscape here is beautiful. Cherry blossoms bloom in spring and fall foliage in autumn. On the Internet, I found out more about this place. The information indicates that people who lack physical strength have often been visiting this place instead of visiting Mt.Hiei. Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/WE7GCBVf5HHcC... Entrance fee: free 3. Enkoji temple (Sakyo ward, Kyoto city) Enkoji Temple, belonging to the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism, was originally established as a school in Fushimi, Kyoto, in 1601 and relocated to its current site in 1667. While renowned for its stunning autumn foliage, the temple is also celebrated for its beautiful weeping cherry blossoms. The Japanese garden features approximately 200 maple trees. From the hilltop, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Kyoto.
