In 2021, in the midst of a global pandemic, May became the charter president of a new Rotary club that championed equal membership of men and women. May has held many leadership positions in Rotary but is currently serving as the chair of the district Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Her passion for service has led her to support the advancement of women and girls around the world, including: Helping blind musicians purchase instruments, promoting employment assistance, and establishing rural medical centers. One of these musicians, a soprano, has since joined Rotary and enjoys the support and opportunity that it provides her. Working with homeless girls in Nepal to provide them food, uniforms, and sponsorships to attend school and learn to read. She also worked with the Nepalese government to help girls who had been trafficked to find stability and support. Supporting girls in Africa with sewing machines and material to create menstrual belts that allow them attend school without interruption. Collecting more than 20,000 books to fill two school libraries. May is an active participant in advancing women outside of Rotary by serving on the boards of many associations including the National Council of Women, the Women’s Federation for World Peace, and the Women Entrepreneurs Association.
