#barpak #ghale #history This history of Ghale is told by Sher Bahadur Ghale, a priest in Barpak, Nepal. The beginning of the Ghale ethnic group in Nepal: In a temple in the mountains, there was a nun who became pregnant with the child of the sun. The child was left in the mountains and was cared for by goats and chickens. He grew up and had three children of his own. As the three children grew up, their parents instructed them to go to three different regions: the Marshyangdi River basin, the Daraudi River basin, and the Budhi Gandaki River basin. They each built kingdoms in their respective areas. Arrival of Ghale at Barpak: Barpak was inhabited by people of the Gurung ethnic group. At one time, the people of Barpak, engaged in an argument, sought help from the king of Ghale, who resided in Khorla. The king of Ghale, upon reaching Barpak, devised a strategy and successfully moved to Barpak, because he thought Barpak was a bright and good place. Thus, the Ghale people living in Korla came to live in Barpak, and a kingdom of Ghale was established in Barpak. Invasion of the Shah Dynasty: At that time, there were 24 kingdoms in Nepal. One of them, the Gorkha Kingdom's King Prithvi Narayan Shah, invaded the Ghale Kingdom in Barpak. They held a feast in a place called Baluwa and invited the people of Ghale. They invited the people of Ghale to enjoy themselves regardless of enmity for the night. They gave the people of Ghale alcohol in metal cups while pretending to be drunk themselves, using cups made of leaves. When the people of Ghale were sufficiently intoxicated, they took out weapons hidden in the ground and killed them. Thus, there were no men of Ghale left in the village of Barpak. Min Bahadur Ghale: Afterwards, the villagers searched the bellies of women to find a child. They found one woman pregnant and instructed her to return to her home village after giving birth to the child. She hid the child in the mountains of trashes and brought him safely to the village The child was named Min Bahadur. He was raised by his mother and uncle and grew up. One day, Min Bahadur asked his mother and uncle about his father and his origin. They told him, "You are of the Ghale ethnicity and from Barpak." Min Bahadur decided to return to his homeland. Prosperity of Barpak: Min Bahadur, upon arriving in Barpak, married a woman named Mamkali and had children. Their descendants now constitute a sub-caste called Dage Ghale. They further invited the Ghale people who had established kingdoms in the Marshyangdi River basin (Lamjung) and the Budhi Gandaki River basin (Uiya, Khasi gaun) to Barpak. The descendants of those who came from the Marshyangdi River basin are called Samri Ghale, and the descendants of those who came from the Budhi Gandaki River basin are called Gyaldung Ghale. They formed marital relationships among the Ghale ethnic group. Thus, in Barpak, the four ethnic groups of Ghale, Gurung, Kami, and Damai prospered.
