While Congress argues and SNAP benefits run dry, Pastor Jamal H. Bryant of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta is doing what leaders won’t — feeding people. Instead of raising a million dollars for his church, Bryant redirected his congregation’s energy toward helping families who will soon lose their food assistance because of the government shutdown. His message? “The church has got to do more than shout — the church has got to be able to serve.” New Birth already feeds 1,500 families every two weeks and now plans to double that number. Bryant is also training other pastors nationwide to turn churches into food distribution hubs — proving that compassion and action go hand in hand. This story isn’t just about one pastor.
