170 Indian districts have been marked hotspots for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) The Union health ministry released the list April 15, 2020. These districts — the ‘red zone’ — are spread over 25 states / Union territories. These have the highest rate of cases positive to the SARS-CoV-2 virus —Either 80%+ of cases in the country Or 80%+ cases in each state 207 districts with fewer cases are classified non-hotspots. Districts without any case are ‘green zones’. Tamil Nadu topped the list with 22 districts, followed by Maharashtra & Rajasthan with 11 each. All 9 districts of national capital Delhi are hotspots.The list includes metropolitan areas like · Mumbai · Kolkata · Chennai · Bengaluru · Hyderabad The red zones will remain sealed; only essential services will be allowed · Strict containment measures are to include: · Active surveillance · Testing & isolation of suspected cases · Quarantine of contacts · Public awareness A district / cluster can move from the red to ‘orange’ zone if there are no cases in 14 days. It can move to ‘green; zone if there are no cases in 28 days.
