What happens when a classic automatic watch gets a pixelated sword for a minute hand? In this video, I take a look at the Citizen Tsuyosa x seconde/seconde NJ0157-81L, a playful collaboration that turns the popular Tsuyosa platform into something a little rebellious. Inspired by the symbolism of the katana, the watch replaces the traditional minute hand with a sword that literally appears to slice through the hours as time passes. The Tsuyosa name means “strength” in Japanese, and Citizen expresses that strength here not through size or bulk, but through design and symbolism. The result is a bold and fun dial with a striking blue sunray finish that really pops in the light. But there’s a bigger question here… This watch costs more than the standard Tsuyosa models, yet most of the watch remains the same — the case, bracelet, movement, and even the packaging. So does the limited edition collaboration justify the higher price, or are you mainly paying for the unique dial? In this review I cover: • The design and inspiration behind the collaboration • Real-world wrist presence and wearability • Full specifications and movement details • How it compares to the regular Tsuyosa models • Whether the limited edition actually feels “limited” Watch Specifications • 40mm stainless steel case • ~11.7mm thickness • Integrated stainless steel bracelet • Sapphire crystal with cyclops date • Exhibition caseback • 50m water resistance • Citizen Caliber 8210 automatic movement • Hacking and hand-winding • ~40–42 hour power reserve Overall, this isn’t the most technically impressive watch, and it may not be the most “serious” limited edition out there — but it does have personality. And sometimes that’s exactly what makes a watch fun to own. So the real question becomes: What is the “fun factor” worth to you? Would you pay extra for something quirky and different? Or would you stick with the standard Tsuyosa? Let me know in the comments. If you enjoy watch reviews like this, make sure to like and subscribe for more content.
