However, he tries to force the issue prematurely, and as the position opens up, he loses the initiative, although he seems to be blissfully unaware of it. He fails to foresee the power of the riposte to 24.Qd2. Still blind to the danger, while searching for a forced win, he misses several opportunities to equalize. Under extreme time pressure, he is compelled to exchange queens under particularly unfavorable circumstances. The resulting endgame holds no further surprises.
