Western medicine is rooted in an adversarial approach. The tendency is to think of ourselves as fighting or in a battle. The end-product of this way of thinking is an increase in stress and anxiety that ultimately detracts from our immune response and decreases our ability to recover. Isabelle Amigues, MD, rheumatologist and researcher, explains why the vernacular behind “fighting” diseases can hinder the healing process. Isabelle Amigues, MD, is a rheumatologist. She trained both in Paris as well as Columbia University, in New York City. She is based in Denver, CO. After being on the faculty of National Jewish Health for over 5 years she opened the first direct care Rheumatology practice in Colorado. She is also a researcher and the author of multiple book chapters and scientific articles. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
