On Sept. 17th, 2016 the Schemel Forum hosted its annual University for a Day lecture series. Dr. Kraus introduces us to the works of Damon Runyon, remembered today primarily as the author of the stories that became the musical Guys and Dolls. Kraus gives examples of how Runyon used his newspaper columns to characterize gangsters, night club performers and rogue politicians as a new kind of New York elite and discussed how his short stories give us a glimpse into the post-immigrant experience.
