The Fat Controller says I'm a useful engine." ― Edward EDWARD THE BLUE ENGINE Edward is one of the oldest engines on the Island of Sodor. He is patient, wise, kind and very hardworking. With years of experience under his buffers, he is ready for anything. Edward enjoys stories set in the past, but dislikes being teased about his age. In the Railway Series and the original television series, Edward was based on a heavily modified Sharp, Stewart and Company "Larger Seagull" K2 class, supplied to the Furness Railway in 1896. Edward is painted a bright blue with red lining and the number 2 on his tender in yellow with red lining. His windows are outlined in yellow. NEW PLARAIL EDWARD—A FAR CRY FROM THE ORIGINAL The old Plarail model of Edward (which can be seen right at the beginning of the video) was a much better representation of this engine. The new 2018 model is somehow strange, starting from Edward's face, which now looks confused and too young (Edward is an old engine!), to the irregular arrangement of the front wheels: the four small wheels have disappeared and have been replaced by two rather strangely placed fake ones. Thus, Edward has turned into a completely different engine and is now a far cry from the original.
