No one believed it would be the Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros in the 2005 World Series. In Game 1, Jermaine Dye would homer in the bottom of the 1st to put the Sox on the board for the first time in the series. After a small comeback from Houston, Joe Crede knocked the go-ahead homer in the bottom of the 4th. White Sox win, 5-3. Game 2 was a back-and-forth battle from first pitch. Sox were down 2 with bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th. Paul Konerko launched a grand slam to left field, scoring Juan Uribe, Tadahito Iguchi and Jermaine Dye. Astros would tie the game in the top of the 9th. However, on his first home run of the season, Scott Podsednik hit one to right field to walk it off for the Sox. White Sox win, 7-6. Game 3 of the World Series was one of legends. Houston held a 4-run lead into the 5th inning. Sox would put up 5 runs in the top of the frame to take the lead. Astros tied it in the 8th, then the chaos began. Neither team would score for 4 extra innings. Geoff Blum, in the top of the 14th, hit a go-head homer to right field and Aaron Rowand would score on a walk by Chris Widger. Starting pitcher Mark Buehrle came into the game with 2 outs in the bottom of the 14th, threw 3 pitches and secured the win. White Sox win, 7-5. One run was all that was needed in Game 4. Scoreless through 8, Jermaine Dye would single on a ground ball up the middle to bring in Willie Harris. An impressive defensive performance by Juan Uribe held Houston at bay. White Sox win, 1-0. The Chicago White Sox defeat the Houston Astros 4 games to 0 to win the 2005 World Series. A World Series Championship is a hard thing to accomplish. Now, players, coaches and fans are all connected.
