It started off as a strip club owned by mobster Mickey Cohen, became another club called Filthy McNasty's, and eventually became the Viper Room, which for a while was co-owned by Johnny Depp. In this video, we will discuss the death of Hollywood superstar River Phoenix, who was attending a Halloween party here on October 31, 1993. River was here with some friends and was excited about playing onstage with some friends during a superstar jam, but got bumped from the bill. Discouraged, he turned to drugs and overdosed on the sidewalk outside the club. We will talk about what happened, a little history of the club, the uncertain future of this location and we will also hear the heartbreaking 911 call.
