Clarification: Cavitation bubbles are NOT air bubbles, they are bubbles of vaporized process liquid (eg steam if the liquid is water). Entrained air (ie air bubbles which are already present in, or are injected into, the process stream) can actually be helpful in very small amounts (less than 1%), because they mitigate the effects of the more troublesome cavitation bubbles. But larger amounts of entrained air (or any kind of gas) can negatively affect pump performance and reliability in a number of ways, including inefficiency, vibration and air pockets which cause dry-running of the seals.
