This land has been a site of human activity for thousands of years and is the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples. It is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. We also recognize that this territory is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit. We honour the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Confederacy of the Ojibwe and allied nations to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We are grateful to have the opportunity to worship on this land today, which continues to be a meeting place for many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island. We are committed to fostering respectful relationships with Indigenous peoples and continuing our journey of reconciliation.
