Exploration of military ethics. An introduction by Dr. Martin L. Cook to the subject and themes of the 2010 Ethics Conference and James Burk's (Texas A&M) "Professional Military Ethics in the American Tradition" The Naval War College ethics program is intended to better prepare students to confront and deal with the ethical dilemmas and challenges that they will face as senior leaders in their services and organizations. The 2009-10 Naval War College Ethics Program is addressing the broad topic of "Enduring Ethical Dilemmas: Rights and Responsibilities of the Professional Military Officer." The presentations and sessions during the February Ethics Conference were designed to look at several specific issues that are part of the larger subject of professional ethics in the military today. The lectures, panel discussions, seminar, and readings were intended to generate thought, broaden students' perspectives, and serve as a basis for further discussion and reflection. The Naval War College expresses appreciation to the Naval War College Foundation, through the generosity of the van Beuren Charitable Foundation for their support in the preparation and presentation of this conference. ***** Disclaimer: The views expressed are the speaker's own and may not necessarily reflect the views of the Naval War College, the Department of the Navy, the Department of Defense, or any other branch or agency of the U.S. Government.
