There are not enough appropriate words to describe the totally beautiful and unique sound of Karen Carpenter’s voice and Richard’s orchestration and production. They took a Burt Bacharach and Hal David song that had failed for pop royalty like Dionne Warwick and Dusty Springfield and turned it into a timeless and Grammy winning classic. The structure of this mix is straightforward and follows the original, but there is the ending coda that elevates the song even higher. This mix uses elements of the original and the recent Royal Philharmonic collaboration, including Richard’s re-recorded piano.
