This recording took place at the Colorado QRP Club's regular meeting in November, 2017. The featured speaker/presenter was AE7AX - James L. Kretzchmar on his "homebrew" equipment and experimentation. In this video you can see the 40 meter CW transceiver that James built last year (2016) and, as he's described, has had a lot of fun with. The transmitter is about 10 watts and has 6 switched crystals. The receiver is a 7 transistor direct conversion style (3 for the mixer/detector, 2 for the varactor diode oscillator, and 2 for the audio amplifier). The schematics were discussed and provided during the talk (available at CQC channel / w0cqc . James says this is probably old school stuff now, however, it is fun for him. He uses a dipole up about 30 feet and has no trouble making contacts ... routinely to CA, OR, MT, and WA ... even made it into Canada one evening.
