In a key development in the Sitalkuchi violence, an alleged audiotape of the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and the District president and Sitalkuchi candidate Partha Pratim has gone viral on social media. In the clip, Mamata allegedly is heard saying that 'a procession will be taken out with the dead bodies of those fired upon by the CRPF, and all the CRPF personnel involved will be suspended and sent behind bars after cases are filed against them through lawyers.' Four persons were killed as central forces opened fire allegedly after coming under attack from locals, who “attempted to snatch their rifles”, near a booth in Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar district during the fourth phase of polling.
