Sea Change Project, in collaboration with the !Khwa ttu San Heritage Centre, recently spent a beautiful day at Cape Point Nature Reserve with a group of young San people. The idea was to reignite their innate knowledge of tracking, and connect them to Mother Nature’s eternal conversation. Earth’s oldest language, tracking allows us to be inside the natural world and recognise ourselves as the wild beings we are. During the course of the day, we traced the steps of baboons and otters, marvelled at the size of a whale skeleton, and even snacked on bits of kelp. For many, the highlight was donning a mask and snorkel and braving the frigid waters of a tidal pool – some for the first time. It was such a beautiful day of sharing and being inspired by the ocean — and swapping stories with the earth, with all our senses awakened.
