North Korea’s 62-year-old Cabinet Premier Kim Tok-hun has enjoyed the confidence of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un since he was appointed in August 2020. Originally the manager of the Taean Electric Machine Factory in Nampo City, Kim Tok-hun is also a member of the Presidium of the Politburo of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, the highest decision-making body in the North, in addition to his role as Premier. This typical technocrat seems to be rising in prominence the worse the North’s economic situation gets.
