Carnegie Mellon University is the exclusive higher education partner of the Tony Awards. As part of the collaboration, the two organizations launched the Tony Honor for Excellence in Theatre Education, the first national recognition program to honor kindergarten through high-school (K-12) theatre educators. The educator honor was announced before the 2014 Tony Awards broadcast by the Dean of College of Fine Arts Dan Martin, alumnus and 2013 Tony winner Billy Porter, and alumna and 2014 Tony nominee Paula Wagner. Alumni Matt Bomer and Zachary Quinto announced the educator honor during the Tony Awards broadcast (2:20). CMU's School of Drama is the oldest drama degree-granting program in the United States and celebrates its centennial in 2014. In the past century, CMU has produced hundreds of Tony nominees and 36 Tony Awards — eight winners in 2013 alone. For more, visit: http://www.cmu.edu/tony-awards/
