A beautiful arrangement by David Russell of a famous Scottish air written by Murray Neil. The words are as follows: O ye'll tak the high road, And I'll tak the low road, And I'll be in Scotland afore ye, But I and my true love will never meet again, On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond. One interpretation of this song is that it is a farewell of a follower of Bonnie Prince Charlie who expects to be executed in Carlisle. He will never see his 'true love' again. The low road refers to the grave. I remember my dad (a true Scot) singing this song when I was a kid but I never appreciated the meaning of the words until recently. My dad died last Xmas. It would have been his birthday yesterday so I wanted to play this for him.
