Mexican Explorer Are: Rayito Donato & Javier Candelas Santa Anita Tlaquepaque Jalisco 4K Walking Tour Santa Anita is a town located in the municipality of San Pedro Tlaquepaque, Jalisco (Mexico), as well as in the deanery of Toluquilla. Around 1500 a group of Tlaxomulca Indians settled near this region, and gave it the name of Atlixtac (from the Nahuatl “White Water”). In 1541, as a consequence of the terrible Mixtón war, the Spanish forced them to move to what is now the town of Santa Anita. The Franciscans built a chapel in honor of the town's patron saint, Lady Santa Ana. On October 2, 1542, the town of Santa Ana Atlixtac was officially founded. At the end of the 18th century the name of the town changed to Santa Anita, and it has kept that name to this day. In decree number 1061 of September 17, 1904, it was stipulated that "The Santa Anita Police Station, of the Municipality of Tlajomulco, will henceforth belong to that of San Pedro Tlaquepaque."
