Symbols of Peace, Freedom and Sacrifice: the 20th Anniversary of the WWII Memorial

This program aired on Friday, June 7, 2024. This program marked two milestone anniversaries with the National Park Service: the 20th anniversary of the World War II Memorial on the National Mall and the 80th anniversary of D-Day. In this final virtual program for the 2023-24 school year, National Mall rangers explored the symbolism at the World War II Memorial; students learned how the columns, wreaths, stars, bas reliefs, and other design elements commemorate US involvement in World War II. Students also took a virtual visit to the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial, where they explored how this memorial remembers D-Day, a notable turning point in World War II.
