This piece contains the deepest expression of grief I played so far by Chaminade. In some sense it is one of the most serious compositions by her I guess. The end reminds me of Alkan in its extreme intention. The pppp, which is a statement like "even quieter than ppp, which i also could have written here" in my opinion, combined with the high amount of fragile diminished chords reflects a bitter, introverted person in its solitude. Alkan would have probably made them staccato though for "unreleased bitterness" :) The set has 2 pieces left - both are much more virtuosic and use the full dynamic spectrum. Conditioned on me being able to play the last one, I will probably make a video collecting all these videos in the set "Poemes provencaux" to get the full picture.
