Heather Townsend, Museum Assistant at Elgin Museum, talks about her favourite object from the Museum's collection – a zoomorphic mount (ELGNM: 1999.2). Thought to date from the 6th – 9th Century AD, the mount is made of copper alloy and depicts an animal figure resembling a hound or dog. It measures 2.3 cm by 1.5 cm. It was originally thought to be a Late Medieval brooch, but was reviewed and identified as much earlier in date. The object was found by metal detecting at Brucelands, Moray, and acquired by Elgin Museum through the Treasure Trove process. This film was made possible thanks to the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, and was produced as part of Elgin Museum's Year of History, Heritage & Archaeology 2017 programme of events.
