"Though during his lifetime overshadowed by the likes of Corelli, Vivaldi, and Locatelli, his contribution to Italian baroque music is noteworthy, and many of his works were published throughout Europe." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giusepp... "Despite its recent foundation, the ensemble Pizzicar Galante has already established itself as one of the most dynamic period ensembles specializing in galant music for mandolin and basso continuo and is regularly invited to festivals all over Europe and abroad. The name of the ensemble comes from the Italian ‘Pizzicare’, which evokes the transparent, sparkling sound of the plucked strings. Described as ‘excellent soloists forming a very solid duo, characterized by a thorough performance resulting from intense and in-depth studies’ (‘Critica Classica’, 2014), the core members Anna Schivazappa (baroque mandolins) and Fabio Antonio Falcone (harpsichord) are curious and passionate musicians who enthusiastically work together since 2012. For specific projects, the ensemble expands to include a variable number of musicians coming from some of Europe’s leading music institutions, including gamba player Ronald Martin Alonso and theorbist Daniel de Morais. The scholarly background of the musicians ensures knowledge of historical performance practice, combined with a special commitment to the rediscovery of forgotten repertoires and composers." http://www.pizzicargalante.com/en/bio... "A specialist in historical mandolins, Anna Schivazappa is one of the few mandolinists to carry out an in-depth reflection on baroque and classical repertoires. Sensitive to the necessity of rediscovering forgotten works from 18th-century composers, in 2012 she founded the ensemble Pizzicar Galante, one of the most dynamic period ensembles specializing in gallant music for mandolin and basso continuo, together with harpsichordist Fabio Antonio Falcone. Pizzicar Galante’s first album, including the world premiere recording of Valentini’s complete mandolin sonatas, has been released in August 2016 by Brilliant Classics. The CD, which has been praised by the specialized press and broadcast by international radio stations such as RAI Radio 3, the Spanish National Radio and the BBC, has been nominated for the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) 2017. Besides her concert activity, Anna is also interested in musicological research. She is currently pursuing a PhD in musicology at the Sorbonne University in Paris and she gives masterclasses, conferences and seminars in important European institutions such as the Philharmonie de Paris, the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Milan Conservatory. In June 2018, she has been awarded a medal from the Académie Arts Sciences et Lettres in Paris, in recognition of her contribution to the re-discovery and dissemination of the repertoire of the baroque mandolin. She has also been selected as an associate musician-researcher at the Bibliothèque nationale de France for 2017-19. Anna performs on a neapolitan mandolin by Antonius Vinaccia dating from 1768." http://www.annaschivazappa.com/about/
