SBD5 Douglas Dauntless Dive Bomber Chino Air Museum

This WW2 aircraft is still flying at The Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino California. It was built in 1943 and flew 32 combat missions in 1944 with the Royal New Zealand Air Force in the South Pacific. It ended up in California after the war and declared surplus. Purchased by Warner Bros then Ed Maloney of the Planes Of Fame. Restoration to flying began in 1982 and was completed in 1987. It was disassembled and craned aboard the carrier Lexington where it took off during the 1987 film production of War and Remembrance. It has remained airworthy and flying regularly ever since. It is even possible to book a ride on it.
