La Llorona (the weeping woman) is a traditional song from Oaxaca that is sung during Día de los Muertos. Three different Palenke Arts groups: our chorus, our ballet folklórico class and our visual arts students and parents collaborated in the making of this video. Filmed and edited by Eric Rowe, with guitar parts by Jorge Casapia, choreography by Esdras Rosas, and Ofrenda del Día de Muertos designed by Carmen Mexicano. Juan L. Sánchez is the artistic director. Palenke Arts is a multicultural arts organization whose mission is to educate, inspire and transform the community of Seaside through the arts. Our organization was founded in 2015 by a committed group of artists, educators and community members, led by Juan L. Sánchez. We recognized the urgent need for multicultural arts and music programs and events in the city of Seaside, especially for the youth, and envisioned the creation of a multicultural arts center.
