Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is a medical condition in which ulcers are formed in the inner stomach lining, the first part of the small intestine (duodenum), and rarely the lower esophagus as well. The stomach lining is protected by the mucus layer, but various factors lead to the reduction in this protective layer which leads to ulceration. Furthermore, PPIs and COX-2 inhibitors can be taken. Bleeding can be treated via endoscopic therapy, injection methods, and angiographic therapy. However, perforation can be treated through medical therapy and laparoscopic repair.
