Desigual | Fully Automated RackBot System Increases Throughput

Short product life cycles, high seasonal peaks, e-commerce and omnichannel, many manual processes and high return rates: the Spanish fashion company Desigual has to react flexibly and quickly to the special market characteristics of the fashion industry. For this reason, SSI SCHAEFER installed a holistic RackBot solution from the SSI Mobile Robot family. Installation and integration took place during operation. The Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) can transport up to 8 cartons at the same time as mobile, aisle-independent storage and retrieval machines. In the future, 25 of these RackBots will not only ensure the targeted maximum goods turnover of 30,000 units per day in two-shift operation, but also a permanently stable transport and picking performance. A RackBot Port, which can also handle eight boxes at a time, takes over the transfer to the picking area. Eight charging stations were implemented for the power supply. In addition to setting up the rack units and a total of four picking stations (each with two put walls), the planning and implementation of an efficient conveyor system was a central part of the delivery. This is how the picked cartons are transported to the lower floors. The advantage of a RackBot solution is, above all, the high degree of flexibility that it offers with regard to future expansions or possible changes to the business model. It offers Desigual the option of installing additional rack rows and thus expanding capacities. At the same time, a service call for one or more RackBots does not result in a failure of the entire system. The remaining AMRs continue to ensure constant operation.
