Serbian Paprikash-Goulash in Yugoslavian Army Mess Kit Welcome to my first episode of "Mess Kit Monday." I recently picked up a surplus military mess kit manufactured in Serbia, former Yugoslavia. The kit is probably 1980's era equipment. The kit I received arrived in very good condition, and does not appear to have actually been issued or used. Since this kit hails from the former Yugoslavia, I felt it would be fun if the first meal cooked in it were a Balkans inspired recipe. Goulash is a traditional/national dish in all areas of Yugoslavia, with minor regional variations. The dish is not especially complicated, but normally requires many hours of preparation/cooking and is normally prepared in large quantities. While I relied heavily on Serbian and Croatian recipes, I had to adapt the concept to create a one serving recipe that I could easily cook in the small mess kit. I also decided to prepare the meal from scratch using only the components of the mess kit. Thanks for watching!
