Episode 4: Is Frankston a Weekend or Daytrip Destination? || Streets Discovered Frankston used to be a holiday destination when the train arrived in 1882, turning it from a quiet fishing village into a seaside escape for Melburnians, full of summer houses, sun, and sand. So, why can’t Frankston be a weekend getaway location again? We went to Frankston (and nearby Seaford) to find out if there’s enough to keep you entertained, cultured, fed, and interested for a relaxed, short break. Here’s what we discovered. Seaford Ocean Swimmers While early morning ocean swimming (in winter) is not your typical holiday activity, Luke joined a group of locals for a dip at Seaford Pier. What started as a casual gathering of like-minded enthusiasts has grown into a welcoming group where camaraderie and a shared love of the ocean come first. Luke found that the morning ritual was not only invigorating physically, but also grounding mentally—a way to reset, appreciate the local coastline, and become part of Seaford’s unique seaside community. 📷 IG: / seafordswimmers Frankston Arts Centre Step inside the Frankston Arts Centre, a cultural hub offering world-class theatre, live music, art galleries, and community events. Luke sits down with Heidi Irvine, Head of Programming, to uncover what makes the Arts Centre such a vibrant destination—from hosting famous acts to creating space for local talent and audiences to connect. Whether you’re a lover of the arts or just curious about what Frankston has to offer, this is a place where creativity and community truly come alive. 📷IG: / the_fac 🎥 YouTube: / frankstonartscentre 💻 Website: https://artscentre.frankston.vic.gov.... Ceylon Girls Ceylon Girls is one of Frankston’s favourite spots for bold, burgher-style Sri Lankan flavours. Burgher-style Sri Lankan cooking is a fusion of Sri Lankan spices and flavours with European (Portuguese and Dutch) culinary influences, combining local ingredients like coconut, chili, and curry leaves with European techniques, breads, and sauces to create dishes that are both flavourful and unique. Luke chats with Angela Lord, owner and chef, about what makes Ceylon Girls a local favourite—great food, friendly vibes, and a community hub where everyone feels welcome. 📷 IG: / ceylongirls_cafebar 💻 Website: https://ceylongirlscafe.com.au/ Frankston Street Art Tour Frankston is Australia’s first city in the Street Art Hall of Fame, and it’s easy to see why. Luke tours some of the city’s most striking murals with artist Trent Downie, uncovering the stories, inspiration, and creativity behind each piece. From bold colours to hidden details, discover why Frankston is a must-visit destination for street art lovers. 📷 IG: / td_illustrations 💻 Website: https://www.tdillustrations.com/home Red Gum (At Home) Pit Stop Red Gum (At Home) Pit Stop is Frankston’s go-to spot for Southern-style American BBQ. Luke meets owner and pitmaster Martin Goffin to explore his passion for slow-cooked meats, the dedication it took to start his business, and what makes Southern BBQ so irresistible. From smoked ribs to pulled pork and everything in between, Martin shares the techniques and flavours that keep locals coming back for more. 📷 IG: / redgumbbqathome 🎥 YouTube: / @redgumbbq 💻 Website: https://redgumbbq.com.au/red-gum-bbq-...
