Tanzania, a country in East Africa with over 60 million people, faces significant nutritional challenges, particularly among children and adolescents. In 2019, 25% of school-aged children were stunted, 11% were underweight, and 5% were overweight or obese. Anemia also affects 40% of those tested, with the rate reaching 57% among adolescents aged 15 to 19. This video details, how in response to these health issues, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) partnered with public and private organizations to develop a nutritious food product for low-income consumers in Tanzania. The goal was to provide a source of protein, vitamins, and minerals to address the dietary deficiencies commonly seen among Tanzanian children. Galaxy Foods in Tanzania, along with other stakeholders like the Tanzania Dairy Board and the Tanzania Bureau of Standards, worked to create fortified yogurt as part of the GAIN Access to Better Dairy project. This initiative aimed to improve hygiene practices, reduce waste, and increase productivity through innovation. The project saw significant progress, with the launch of the fortified yogurt in December 2023. This achievement underscored the success of public-private partnerships in addressing nutritional gaps in Tanzania. The event, attended by government officials and other stakeholders, marked an important step toward improving the health and nutrition of Tanzanian children.
