I discovered that Geronimo had a monument near the border statelines of Arizona and New Mexico on HWY 80 southbound towards Douglas, Arizona and a little ways from Rodeo, New Mexico. I took my father with me to visit the Surrender Monument which is a tall pillar built in stone. Although I do not have it in this video, dad speaks in fluent Apache of Geronimo's surrender and why he decided to. I will do that in another part of Geronimo's tribute. The 2nd part, we went on a road trip to Oklahoma and went into the Ft. Sill Army base. We had to apply for a visitors badge and state our purpose there. Once we got to the gravesite, it was a solemn moment for us. So many graves of Apaches were there along with Geronimo's grave which was the largest one with an Eagle headstone and built on a pyramid of rocks and clay. People that visited Geronimo had placed coins, feathers, etc on his headstone. My dad also spoke in Apache there as well, but for that first moment he tried to find the right words to speak of what Geronimo had done for his land and people. I too have that on video of my dad speaking in Apache there. But this is just the first part of our tribute to a great leader of the Apache tribe.
