On June 3rd, 2023, my good friends Rogue Railfan, @ScottKremer29, and I met up in Old Town Sacramento to ride the Sacramento Southern Excursion Train down the Sacramento waterfront. This was one of the last days this train ran for the season as the California State Railroad Museum is going to be replacing about 1000 feet of track along the route the excursion train runs on. The contract to replace the track is for 115 days so after that is up, they should be back in business running the train! On this day, we had SSRR 2030 leading the five car train. It made four round trips with the EMD SW8 locomotive hard at work and blasting it's beautiful Nathan P3 horn. As seen in the video, I got a first class ticket for a trip on the train. I got to ride in the El Dorado car and it was awesome! We got complimentary beverages and snacks on the ride, too, which was a great perk! We also got to go stand on the observation deck on the rear of the El Dorado. It was so cool to be standing right above the coupler when the locomotive ran around the train and coupled on to the rear of the train to pull it back to Sacramento. After we got off the train in Sacramento, we stuck around for a little while longer to catch the rest of the trains leaving and returning at Sacramento. It was an amazing day and I will so be returning when they return service! Enjoy the video! Fun fact of the day: The SW8 was built in 1951 for the US Army. There were 15 locomotives built exactly like this one. Thanks for watching! 👍🏼 ©️ All rights reserved to Central Valley Railfan 8311
