It has become a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of folk art and outsider art. Slab City is a squatter community located in the Sonoran Desert in southeastern California. It is known for being a haven for people who want to live off the grid and away from mainstream society. The community is situated on the site of a former World War II Marine barracks called Camp Dunlap. Residents of Slab City live in a variety of makeshift structures, including trailers, RVs, and tents.
