Three abandoned locations lie in one of East Anglia’s smallest parishes and there is no village located here. These deserted structures lie on the safe side of the border of the forbidden Stanford Battle Zone. Stanford is a deserted Norfolk village after being taken over by the British Army during World War 2. It forms part of the Stanford Battle Area and access to this zone by members of the public is still forbidden without permission. Hidden inside St Mary’s church (open daily) lays an underground archway which presumably would have once led to the crypt. This vaulted structure however only reaches so far before being bricked up from within. Nearby to the church stands a small flint cottage with no visible road or tracks leading from it. It is sadly boarded up and looks like it has been abandoned for some time. Not far from St Mary’s Church lies another derelict structure - a Primitive Methodist Chapel. This old chapel was founded in 1885 but it has been out of use since 1978. Nature has completely engulfed this structure over the years and the exterior is now barely visible at all. Nearby is an old RAF base which is where war planes operated during the Second World War. This old base has been abandoned since closing in 1945 and the old control tower is rumoured to be haunted. Do the ex military service personnel of this Second World War airbase still haunt the remaining derelict buildings and grounds? Music provided by HearWeGo (https://goo.gl/nDS3zR) Artist: Ptr.
