The current No. 1 P4P best fighter Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez challenges Carlos “Principe” Cuadras for Cuadras’ WBC World Super Flyweight title. This is the 4th weight division in which Chocolatito competes in and had previously won world titles in 3 different weight divisions since making his debut in July 2005. In this fight, the student of the legendary Alexis Arguello looks to become a 4 weight division world champion. Gonzalez and Cuadras were both undefeated going into this fight. Alexis Arguello, arguably the greatest Nicaraguan fighter to ever lived was also a 3 weight world champion and attempted to become a 4 weight world champion when he moved up to 140 pounds to challenge Aaron “The Hawk” Pryor for the the WBA Light Welterweight title. A fight in which Arguello was leading in the scorecards by the end of Round 13 but in Round 14, Pryor came out with renewed vigor and strength to overwhelm Arguello. It was however, a controversial fight due to the presence of the infamous “black bottle” given by Panama Lewis to Pryor which is said to contain illegal substances used to provide Pryor with renewed energy; giving him an unfair advantage over Arguello. Further controversies surfaced when a drug test was not conducted on Pryor to determine if Pryor was given banned substances. However, in a September 1983 rematch Pryor was the clear KO winner and had tested clean going into the fight. Thus, Gonzalez aims to achieve what his idol Arguello could not although Arguello was very close to lasting the distance, en route to a decision victory. As an amateur, Gonzalez has a perfect record of 88-0 and going into the fight his professional record was still perfect at 45(38)-0 and had won world titles in the Mininumweight, Light Flyweight and the Flyweight divisions. The Nicaraguan warrior had notable victories over Yutaka Niida, Katsunari Takayama, Francisco Rosas, Manuel Vargas, Juan Francisco Estrada, Ramon Garcia Hirales, Francisco Rodriguez Jr, Rocky Fuentes, Edgar Sosa, Brian Villoria and McWilliams Arroyo. Carlos Cuadras was a star amateur boxer; a Gold Medalist in the Bantamweight division at the 2007 Pan American Games with an overall amateur record of 160-10. Since making his pro debut in May 2008, he had won various regional and minor titles. His big break came in May 2014 when he won the WBC World Super Flyweight strap, beating Wisaksil Wangek via TD. And made 6 successful title defenses from September 2014 to April 2016. Going into the fight, Cuadras’ was also undefeated at 34(27)-0-1. Cuadras’ notable wins include Armando Santos, Johnny Garcia, Jose Salgado, Victor Zaleta, Wisaksil Wangek, Luis Concepcion, Richie Mepranum and Koki Eto. This is a highly exciting fight and considered to be Chocolatito’s toughest fight to date. It is filled with great flurries, exchanges and overall excitement in this magnificent bout! On March 2017, a rematch between these two fighters will take place. Cuadras have vowed to score a knockout victory over the current No. 1 Best P4P Fighter in the sport and handling his first defeat.
