Gene Hackman Explains The Salish Sea

Our staff recently unearthed an old VHS tape from way back in 2002–the earliest days of SeaDoc. It’s narrated by the late, great Gene Hackman (!) who at the time had a home in the San Juans. This video was made before the SeaDoc Society had its name, when it was just another acronym: The Marine Ecosystem Health Project (MEHP). The VHS tape describes the majesty of the Salish Sea and why a science organization like SeaDoc Society could play a vital role in its future. On one level it’s a fascinating bit of nostalgia at the dawn of SeaDoc’s 25th Anniversary, but it doubles as a crystal clear validation of our mission, the same then as it is now through 25 years of ebbs and flows. Check it out; you might see some familiar faces.
